About

The work began with one question:
What can your company no longer do without you?

The Problem I Could Not Ignore

I am the founder of Dominion Leadership Strategies. I advise founders whose companies have grown dependent on them.

For over three decades I watched founders build extraordinary companies, and quietly lose themselves in them. The pattern was consistent: more effort, slower momentum. More involvement, less availability. The leader had become the operating system their company depended on.

Founder Drift. Decision fatigue. Leadership pressure. The cost of being available to everything except what matters most.

I could not ignore it. So I built a system to name it.

Where It Began.
Where It Began

"Dad, you are here, but you are not here."

Eight words. From my daughter. In an email.

They forced a reckoning. I was physically present, but relationally unavailable. I wasn't absent. I was disconnected.

As I sat with what she meant, I started seeing the same pattern everywhere: founders present in meetings but unavailable to their teams; parents present with their children but unavailable to the moment; leaders present in the room but unavailable to the decisions that mattered most. Everyone showing up: no one fully available to what mattered most.

That's when it stopped being a personal lesson and became a conviction. The lost availability was not the real problem. It was the cost of a deeper one: I had become the person everything depended on, and dependency, not effort, was the constraint beneath the problems people were trying to solve.

Availability creates clarity. Clarity restores momentum. Momentum compounds.

Everything I've built since, including the Founder Clarity Intensive, traces back to that moment of recognition.

The Idea Beneath the Work

There Is No Ability Like Availability.™

When a company depends on you for everything, the first thing it costs you is your availability: to the truth, to the people who matter most, and to the work only you can do. Removing the dependency is how you get it back.

Read the Philosophy

Available to Truth

See what is actually governing the business, not what you hope is true.

Available to People

Lead without losing what matters most in the process.

Available to the Work Only You Can Do

Stop carrying what the structure should hold.

Beyond the Work

David leads with conviction, not formula. He is a husband, father, and person of faith. Those priorities are not separate from the work. They are the proof of concept.

Availability is not a productivity strategy. It is a way of being present to what matters most.

Founder Dependency: What It Is, Why It Grows, and What Removes It

The condition the whole practice is built around, stated plainly.

Where the Idea Came From: St. Louis, 1944

A man about to ship out did not ask the doctor for more time. He asked to be available for the hours he had.

Your Excellence Is the Constraint

None of this happened because you are bad at this. It happened because you are good at it.

The work is structural, not motivational.
